The Directive 2004/52/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the interoperability of electronic road toll systems in the community is presented, including: its aim and scope, the status of the definition of the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS), as well as its milestones and principles, the decision process and the technologies used. The link with other applications and services are also touched upon.
