About the session

Session 9B.2 - Emerging Electric Machines: Experiences, downfalls and thoughts

There has always been a large body of research focusing on novel and unusual topologies of electrical machines. Researchers often claim high performance compared to conventional rotary field machines. All too often promising performance is offset by the proposed concepts being hard to build and even harder to produce at scale.

In this talk Dr Baker will present some of the challenges and successes of unconventional electric machines that have been demonstrated in industry and academia. It will include an honest look at some of the machine development he has been involved in over the last decade.
