About the session
Earlier in 2013, the speaker authored a pamphlet in which he identified eight technology areas of particular, wide-ranging, significance, potential economic importance, and in which the UK's research base was particularly strong. These are: (1) the big data revolution and energy-efficient computing; (2) satellites and commercial applications of space; (3) robotics and autonomous systems; (4) life sciences, genomics and synthetic biology; (5) regenerative medicine; (6) agri-science; (7) advanced materials and nanotechnology; and (8) energy and its storage. During his lecture, the speaker announced a £186 million package of investment in these eight great technologies of the future that will accelerate high-tech progress from the laboratory to the marketplace.
