Abstract
Hear from one of the UK’s most distinguished military engineers as he shares his thoughts on how the engineering profession can make a positive impact on the next generation, drawing on his experiences of working with engineers, technicians and apprentices: institutionalising professionalisation, operationalising STEM, embedding digitalisation and squeezing sustainability.
He will challenge you to consider how we keep inspiring generation after generation of engineers. All of us were once ‘the next generation’ at the start of our careers and will become ‘old hands’ eventually: what can each of us do to mentor and learn new skills from each other, both ahead of us and following on?
And what can engineers do more of to support 21st century society, promote an ethical and diverse profession and help solve the big societal challenges? How the role of engineers as influencers and drivers can create a sustainable, digital world - something that the IET is building its Strategy 2030 around. Finally, take a look at the IET stepping back onto a global stage post-Covid - one where all engineering roles are viewed equally.
The future of engineering and how it can shape society is in all our hands!
