About the session
"EUROEM 2016 represents a continuation of a unique series of conferences in High Power Electromagnetics (HPEM) that began in the late 1970’s. I am honoured to Chair this conference which is the 21st in the series.
"There is no doubt that HPEM phenomena represents a threat to modern critical infrastructures which are increasingly underpinned by electrical and electronics technologies. This is not so different from the cyber threat that we perceive today and there are some similarities which will be discussed.
"The conference themes address HPEM effects and importantly highlight developments in protection from unwanted and potentially dangerous effects. New transformative materials and applications will be discussed by our keynote speaker Prof Sir John Pendry and we have dedicated a special session to this topic this year.
"Popular themes such as Lightning effects and measurement, transients in UHV/EHV transmission lines and HPEM in the biomedical domain are also featured.
"EUROEM 2016 provides a fantastic opportunity for the HPEM community to come together, to share knowledge, to understand new challenges and perhaps to find solutions to those challenges. The conference also provides a space to network with colleagues and leading figures in the field, from Europe and the rest of the world."
