Graham became Director of Systems Integration in Laing O’Rourke’s Engineering Excellence Group in September 2013. As an industry specialist, Graham has been selected as a member of Laing O'Rourke Engineering Excellence Group (EnEx.G), a cross-disciplinary, industry-recognized group of professionals who provide added value solutions to targeted projects for the Laing O'Rourke Group.Previously, Graham was head of the software centre of excellence with Rolls-Royce, a world-leading provider of integrated power systems in the civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine, energy and nuclear sectors. In this role he was responsible as department head for a global specialist software department, which had a corporate remit to advise on and improve product software. The group’s goal was to improve the competence, capability and efficiency of more than 1200 engineers producing software globally for RR. Graham has experience in addressing the threat posed to the cyber security of control systems and IT systems.He worked for Thales between 2003-2011 on several naval projects in both the UK (3 years) and France (5 years). Whilst living in France with his family he was responsible for the operational management and delivery of the Italian aspects of a bi-national high technology programme involving extensive hardware systems (mechanics, hydraulics, power electronics, multi-processor computing, resilient networking(copper & fibre)) and software development and 3rd party integration as well as involvement in supplier selection and supply chain management. As a senior programme manager he worked closely with the prime contractor Orizzonte Sistemi Navale and customer OCCAR in delivering this €140m programme of a wider €450 million programme.Prior to working for Thales Graham worked for NATO at its Undersea Research Centre in Italy for 2 years. Graham started his career in the design of virtual reality training systems. He has since led teams developing high availability systems in several sectors and has acted as both an engineering manager and a technical authority. He has experience of complex systems integration and commissioning with multiple 3rd party providers and independent assessors.Graham is a passionate engineering leader who is keen to ensure that students are inspired to become engineers and that the engineers of tomorrow have the necessary skills for the 21st century.He received a BEng in Communications Engineering followed by a PhD at Leeds Metropolitan University. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the IET and APMP qualified with full membership of the Association for Project Management.
