A discussion of the requirements of a specialist wideband antenna, for installation on a complex platform, is set out. An example of such a candidate is presented where the measured data for a prototype was in good agreement with simulated results. The installation of the antenna for body-worn communications and on the Warrior land vehicle is modelled and the electromagnetic (EM) environment, e.g. RF hazards and optimised performance, is highlighted.
