The benefits of build to order are well documented and have been demonstrated to operate successfully in many industries. However, implementing a true build to order strategy in the automotive industry represents a major challenge. Operational processes and the end-to-end supply chain require significant change to create the full flexibility required for build to order. In addition, the role of the distribution channel is dramatically changed to successfully operate in a pull environment.
