Abstract
LTE and LTE-Advanced offer data rates and user experience that already often exceed those available via fixed connections. Does this mean that the “unceasing toil of research workers and engineers on the improvement of wireless telegraphy”, famously spoken of by Marconi, can finally cease, ushering in an era of contented retirement for us all, relaxing in the knowledge of mission accomplished? Or is there more to be done? What more do we need from mobile communications? Will there ever be 5G, and if so, what will it be?
