Sir Joseph Swan was a pioneer of the electric lighting industry, photographic processes, and a President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. He remains one of Sunderland’s most notable electrical pioneers and inventors, filing 70 patents in his lifetime and significantly contributing to the development of the electrical lighting and photography industry.
