Mobile telecommunications has been one of the fastest growing businesses over the past 20 years. There is almost an acceptance that cellular technology will continue through the 4th and maybe the 5th generations. This presentation discusses whether this will be the case, taking into account technical and business considerations, including the limits to spectral efficiency, the commercial implications of developing systems above 3 GHz and consolidation of the mobile industry.
