About the session
Even though the quantum technology is still in its infancy state, we must start building awareness today. Here’s why.
Welcome to CyNation’s first Thought Leadership Series 2017 event: “Will Quantum Technology Change the World?” Contrary to a belief that this conversation is twenty years too early, we at CyNation a confident the subject is so complex, and also controversial, that we need start raising awareness about it already today.
Very few people know the difference between quantum computing and the applied use of quantum technology. We will hear more about them from the presenting today companies, who are already making revenue in this area. We will also hear from established market leaders, like BT, who are starting to use quantum technology in some of their network infrastructures.
We can see quantum is slowly making its way into a social discourse: last year Canadian PM Justin Trudeau explained the basics of a quantum computer in the video that went viral; we could see TV series “Quantum Leap” which were critically acclaimed; and we can even hear of Quantum Blockchain. However, Quantum computing technology is still in its infancy.
Our company, CyNation, is focused on data security and secure communications and we are starting to look at quantum too to implement as a part of our solutions. We take part in the government-funded project aiming to utilise quantum technology for securing communications between connected and autonomous vehicles. We also look at using quantum technology around automation of cyber security defences.
It is not a coincidence that we are hosting this event at the Institution of Engineering and Technology. The I.E.T. was established 1871 and has had a long history of commitment to embrace new technologies, which is only a matter of time if we are talking about quantum.
Lastly, over a year ago, the UK government launched a £270m initiative to take quantum technology from the realm of academia and labs into commercialization. We hope that this event will reinforce the attempt of UK in becoming a world leader in Quantum Technology.
