Abstract
Dame Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, presents a highly authoritative and scintillating analysis of the state of Earth’s climate – the transformation that is already under way and the options for achieving future stability through rapid decarbonisation. Emphasising the need for behavioural change, intelligent adaptation and a sustained reduction in the cost of electricity, she assesses the likelihood of the human race – and the planet – being able to weather the greatest storm of them all.
Dame Julia is an engineer and a crossbench member of the House of Lords, where she chairs the Science and Technology Select Committee. A former Vice-Chancellor of Aston University, and Chancellor of Cranfield University, she is a leading light of the UK Climate Change Committee and Chair of the Carbon Trust.
‘Together in Electric Dreams’ was recorded on 12 November 2024 at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Savoy Place, London WC2R 0BL. It is broadcast by IET Video Services, as part of Electric Dreams, a festival of womanpower to celebrate the centenary of the founding in 1924 of the Electrical Association for Women (EAW).
