About the session

    Adam Madgett served for eleven years as an aircraft engineer with the British Army’s Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME), before joining Northern Gas Networks (NGN) as an integrity engineer in 2015. Adam has a keen interest in the role that gas can play in providing a secure, affordable and sustainable energy source for generations to come. He project managed the innovation project, Hystart, and is the NGN lead on the collaborative Hydeploy project, working alongside Keele University and National Grid. Adam has recently been appointed innovation portfolio manager for NGN. He also sits on NGN’s Customer Energy Solutions (CES) group which is setting the strategic direction around the future role of gas.

    David Salisbury is Head of Network Engineering and Asset Management for National Grid's Gas Transmission Business. He is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer a Fellow of IMechE and IGEM and a Member of the Institution of Asset Management. Previous roles include Head of Data and Technology for UK Transmission and Head of Process – Operate and Maintain in Gas Distribution where he was a member of the Gas Distribution Executive Team. David has been President of the Gas European Research Group GERG for the past 5 years. GERG, through its members have developed the Power to Gas Roadmap along with many technical studies relating to Hydrogen in Gas Networks. David is also a member of the Executive Boards of Marcogaz and Eurogas.

    Mitya joined Policy Connect in January 2016 and initially worked across Policy Connect's sustainability-themed activities on energy and climate change, the circular economy and sustainable resources, and the built environment and natural capital. Mitya is now the Manager of Carbon Connect, the cross-party policy research forum that seeks to inform and guide a low carbon transformation underpinned by sustainable energy.Mitya has a BA in Politics from the University of Sheffield and an MA in Politics & Contemporary History from the Institute of Contemporary British History at King’s College London.His interests outside of work include playing and watching football, reading and walking.

Born in Manchester where he studied mechanical engineering at Bolton University Mark brings unique insight and experience into his current position as Innovation and new technology project manager at SGN.In his varied and successful career with numerous gas distribution and utilities company’s Mark has been responsible for defining and delivering Engineering policy, Account management, Network operations and Maintenance with major utilities companies.In his current role he is the project manager for SGN’s100% hydrogen project which is assessing the viability of constructing and operating the first hydrogen distribution network in Scotland

    Tony has a background in Whitehall and Westminster, having worked at the heart of government for two chief whips as well as a spell in 10 Downing Street. Since 2003 he has worked for the electricity and gas sector through Energy Networks Association (ENA). He was also from 2008?2012 the spokesman for all the utilities on street works issues. He is currently Director of Policy where he is responsible for the Communications, Policy, Regulation, European and Gas teams. He has led the campaign to address the scourge of metal theft by changing the scrap metal law. He also chairs the EU wide GEODE Future of Gas Group. He sits on the Board of the Gas Industry Safety Group and the Advisory Board of the Energy Innovation Centre.

    Navdeep joined National Grid in 2015 on the graduate development programme with a Masters in Mechanical and Materials Engineering (sponsored by Rolls-Royce) whilst completing his PhD in Efficient Fossil Energy Technologies (sponsored by EON).Since joining the company Navdeep has spent time in Network Strategy materials policy and then as an energy analyst helping to deliver Cadent's annual Future Energy Scenarios document. He has since focussed on the future role of the gas distribution networks and will be project managing the UK’s first practical deployment of injecting hydrogen and natural gas blends into the gas distribution network.
