Facing severe competition from DSL and FttH operators, cable operators will have to address the downstream and upstream capacity issue. This lecture provides an overview of the scattered nature of the European cable networks as obtained from the ReDeSign operator questionnaire. With this large diversity of networks in mind, the speaker considers the possibilities of expanding the downstream and upstream network capacity. He shows that there is not one solution that fits all.
