    Ian Costello

    Airbus Defence & Space, Deputy Engineering Manager

    Ian Costello was Deputy Engineering Manager on the Rosetta mission, leading the design and procurement teams on the European Space Agency (ESA) science mission built in Stevenage. Following that he was the Lead Mechanical, Thermal Propulsion Engineer on Aeolus, the ESA Earth observation satellite that will measure wind speeds across the globe. He was also Engineering Manager for the platforms for the Swarm satellites, an ESA mission currently measuring the Earth’s magnetic field more accurately than ever before. He also has more than 10 years’ experience on telecommunication satellites as a mechanical systems engineer. He is currently working on Solar Orbiter, ESA’s mission to study the Sun which is due to launch in 2017. He graduated with First Class Honours in Engineering from Sheffield City Polytechnic.
