About the session
Ever since the 1950s, when television first came into its own as a mass entertainment medium, content innovation and technological improvements have gone hand in hand. Colour brought new opportunities to visualise the natural world; satellite and multichannel TV provided a greater spectrum of opportunities for niche broadcasting; and now, IP delivery means that the whole house can be connected - but how will the medium evolve to keep pace? Europe has always been a hot-bed for TV creatives, but are they ready for the next generation of TV entertainment, and do we have the skills to deliver the formats of the future in a globalised market? Much has been made of the theoretical synergy of main and companion screens, but there are only a handful of mainstream examples - and fewer still have been a success. Focusing on breakthrough content innovation for the second screen from the last year, this session explains how to bring the technological possibilities to life for consumers. Everyone is talking about the second screen but few people can actually say they are successfully developing content for this media. This panel hosts speakers who have worked on some of Europe's top TV formats. In this panel, they don't just show you what's possible, they explain what makes the difference between a hit and a failure. They explain the mechanics behind the second screen, how it can embrace the advertisers, and what new formats are emerging that will cement two-screen behaviour as the norm and drive revenues into the future.
