Abstract
In this #EngShort we look at the UK #manufacturing industry’s’ challenge to delivering #NetZero. In its journey to net zero 2050, UK manufacturing must tackle two key challenges - the digitalisation of the economy and a resilience to future shocks, such as #pandemics.
#Digitalisation and decarbonisation must be taken forward together, as a single agenda. However, net zero targets cannot be achieved using current manufacturing methods. Technological advances can enable manufacturers’ efforts to become #CarbonNeutral. Digitalisation, for instance, helps sustainability by collating data on #energy and material flows. Yet technology can hinder efforts if its consumptions exceed the efficiency gains it brings. How can we bridge the gap between finance, #sustainability and digital transformation? In what other ways can digitalisation enable UK manufacturers to deliver net zero? Comment below to share your thoughts.
