During this talk David will discuss why real engineering effort and innovative solutions are needed to make a motor that can be more easily replaced, re-used, or re-cycled. Examples presented illustrate how seemingly straightforward changes to improve the sustainability of a servo motor precipitate many changes to the motor design, performance, and manufacturing approach, all of which need to be understood and assessed. From consideration of the design challenges and research themes, opportunities to create altogether better and more sustainable servo motors and electric drives will become evident
