Abstract
More than 100 delegates came together at IET Birmingham: Austin Court on September 27th 2017 for ‘Looking ahead: the future of housing and sustainability’, a conference that pulled in visitors from across the Built Environment and Energy Sectors, along with housing providers, architects, academics and more.
Set up by Sustainable Homes, a not-for-profit organisation that supports the housing sector through research, accreditation and consultancy, the event tackled key topics such as the rising demand for quality housing – not just higher quantities – and how this can be met; the need for more energy-efficient solutions; retrofit initiatives that could make a difference and the role that big data could play going forward.
It also featured four breakout sessions that covered subjects such as new methods of construction and supply chain engagement, as well as an Emerging Innovation Hub that allowed small tech companies to exhibit and demonstrate their new solutions.
In this video, some of the event's speakers and organisers discuss the challenge of achieving a more sustainable housing sector.
