Lecture
  • Duration: 1 hr 41 mins
  • Publication date: 09 Mar 2026

Abstract

Discussing 6G may seem incongruous when 5G has had limited success in generating new revenues and fulfilling its anticipated use cases. The current status of 5G has made MNOs worldwide reluctant to invest in another costly generational rollout starting in 2030. This provides a rationale to either advance 6G to address these issues or pause its development. This lecture will address why 5G has struggled so far, and what potential the next ‘Even’ number generation of mobile technology has to rectify the failures of the previous ‘Odd’ number generation, as has occurred twice before.
