About the session

This presentation discusses the role of the Balance-of-Plant SCADA system, the technologies involved, the implications of the OFTO, (Offshore Transmission Network Owner) and the inherent design challenges that arise from demanding availability/performance targets for communication interfaces in offshore wind farms.

    Alex Pettener

    Siemens Transmission & Distribution Ltd., Design Engineer - Control

    Alex Pettener received his MEng degree in Electronic amp; Electrical Engineering (Hons) from Loughborough University in 2007. During his time at university he completed work at Toyota UK where he worked as a Facilities Engineer looking to reduce the manufacturing site utility usage by using SCADA monitoring solutions. From recommendations based on this work, he received the Sir William Siemens Medal in 2005 which led to employment with Siemens Tamp;D Ltd. upon his graduation in 2007. Alex has worked on multiple offshore wind farm projects including the Thanet and Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farms. This has led to his current position of the Lead Design Engineer for the Communications amp; SCADA systems for the London Array Offshore Wind Farm. Alex is a current Member of the IET and currently working towards his Chartership.
