The ever changing nature of threats, whether natural, through climate change, or man-made through terrorism activities and insider threats, means the need to continually review and update policies, practices and technologies to meet these growing demands. But what are those emerging threats and how can we identify, monitor and manage their levels of potential damage?

    Ruth Christensen

    Ruth Christensen serves as a counterterrorism analyst on NCTC’s Energy Cell. NCTC leads and integrates the national counterterrorism effort by fusing foreign and domestic CT information, providing terrorism analysis, and sharing information with partners across the CT enterprise. The Energy Cell focuses on non-state actor’s ability to target energy infrastructure. Prior to working at NCTC, Ruth served as an Intelligence Specialist in the US Navy from 2004-2012 and as an imagery analyst at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency from 2012-2018.

    Daniel Bell

    Dan Bell is a U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander who serves as a Maritime Terrorism Analyst and Coast Guard Liaison Officer to the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). In this role, he provides timely strategic maritime counterterrorism analysis to policymakers and federal, state, local, and Intelligence Community partners.Additionally, he researches and develops intelligence assessments and identifies opportunities to reduce or disrupt maritime terrorism trends, threats, and terrorist exploitation of the marine transportation system. Prior to NCTC, he served in various intelligence and operational shipboard assignments, and has earned a M.S. from the National Intelligence University, a M.A. from the U.S. Naval War College, and a B.S. from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He has also served as a Coast Guard Intelligence Fellow and an Executive Branch Fellow at the Wilson Center’s Artificial Intelligence Lab, and has been published in Proceedings and on the U.S. Naval Institute Blog.

    Lauren Nash is the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at NWS New Orleans/Baton Rouge for the past year and a half. Her main job is to interface and interact with our local, state and federal partners, making sure their needs are met and our products are well understood. She oversees community outreach, quality control of the forecast, improvements to our products and ensuring we are a great partner in our community. She frequently speaks to the local community about all types of weather hazards, from tornadoes to hurricanes to flooding. Previously, she worked in Tallahassee, FL, Huntsville, AL, and New York City. She has worked a few of the most destructive hurricanes in recent times such as Sandy, Michael, Zeta and Ida. She has a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology and a Master's Degree in Public Administration.
