Andrew Stove graduated from Oxford University in 1977 with a first class degree in Engineering Science, and was awarded a DPhil, also from Oxford University, in 1981 for work on surface acoustic wave devices. He then joined Philips Research Laboratories, working principally on the application of FMCW techniques to naval navigation radars and to low-level air defence radars and on smart ammunition and automotive radar sensors. This work included the research which led to the development of the PILOT FMCW navigation radar.He joined Racal Radar Defence Systems, now Thales, in 1996. Since then he has worked on the system design and proving of Searchwater 2000, on applying FMCW techniques to low cost phased array radars and on the target classification and discrimination for both microwave and VHF radars.
