About the session
James Robottom then hosted a panel discussion with Alasdair Fairhurst, Helen Leung, Gabriel Yoong and Yewande Akinola about their careers since being an Arkwright Scholar or winning the IET’s Young Women in Engineering Award. Helen was an Arkwirght Scholar in 2015 and became very interested in energy quickly and took the academia route into becoming a researcher at the University of Oxford in Electron Image Analysis. Alasdair was an alumnus in 2012 and met his current manager through recreational sport and became part of a fast-growing team. Gabriel was also a scholar in 2015 and sent messages through LinkedIn to interesting companies, of which one asked him for a coffee, which lead to a job offer as a consultant. Yewande spoke about the growing ambition to hit the target on 2050, but questioned how much action is being done to hit this.
