About the session

Climate change and diminishing energy resources are two major threats that have a significant impact on our world. When energy is being utilized, we need to find the most efficient appliance for our intended purpose. Technology, systems and people are the three elements that are critical to achieving an optimal use of energy and to building a low-carbon and sustainable world. This presentation covers energy efficiency technologies, regulatory supports, behaviour change to promotion and incentive.

    After graduation with First Class Honours from the University of Hong Kong in Electrical Engineering, Ir Dr CHAN carried out research in power system protection and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from Imperial College, University of London. He also holds an MBA from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, an MA in English for the Professions from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a Master of Laws from University of London. Currently, Ir Dr CHAN is the Non-Executive Director of CLP Engineering Limited and is the current President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). He has extensive experience in power systems, specialising in power systems protection, distribution automation, lighting applications and energy services. Throughout his career, he has been involved in various management activities, including business process re-engineering, quality systems, contingency planning and procurement. Ir Dr CHAN has published over 50 papers and won the HKIE Transactions Prizes twice in 2003 and 2007.
