About the session

The event hosted a number of high profile international speakers with representatives joining from Europe, Korea, Singapore, Japan and the US and topics spanning autonomous vehicles, robotics and space and the future of automation in manufacturing. 

Opened by Professor Philip Nelson, Chief Executive of EPSRC and Professor Jeremy Watson, IET President Elect, the event 

highlighted the importance of robotics and autonomous systems for the UK and the roles that the EPSRC and IET will continue to play to support innovation within the field.

Exhibits from research groups and industry were also present at the event to showcase their latest work and products including Dyson, Shadow Robot, Consequential Robotics, Sheffield and Leeds University. Afternoon sessions included information around collaboration and funding opportunities, whilst also launching the Innovate UK Robotics call (registrations closing on 19th October 2016).

Two UK-RAS white papers were also announced at the event - the next robotic industrial revolution and widening the horizon of space exploration. IET Design and Production Sector Chairman Jeremy Hadall helped launch the Manufacturing White Paper and also presented on the day, showcasing the opportunity for Robotics within Manufacturing. 

The evening was concluded with an award ceremony for the School and Surgical Robot Challenges held as a part of UK Robotics Week in the Maxwell Library. Images, updates and tweets are available to view now online with video content also ready for you to view on IET.tv.
