About the session

Radar technology contributes greatly to our safety and security, with applications ranging from military defence systems to air and land traffic management, weather forecasting and remote sensing.

"The role of radar in tomorrow’s world will be no less significant. The development of radar over the last century has been characterised by outstanding innovation and teamwork between industry, academia and government laboratories, an approach which will continue to be essential to meet the major technical challenges of the future.

Radar 2017 is a prime opportunity for radar specialists at all career stages to update and enhance the knowledge on the latest developments in advanced radar systems.You will hear presentations covering the latest developments in the sphere, tutorials on key elements of radar technology and keynote addresses from leading experts.Radar 2017 is a part of an internationally successful series of conferences hosted by the USA, China, United Kingdom, Australia and France on a five year cycle. Radar 2017 is making a welcome return to the UK for the first time since 2012, and its first ever visit to Northern Ireland.

    Nigel graduated from Loughborough University in 1980 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering whilst completing an apprenticeship with Lucas Aerospace. Joined Jaguar Cars in 1983 and 1989 joined the Research Dept. to work on the PROMETHEUS European collaborative project leading the collision avoidance demonstrations where he first started working on sensing systems including microwave radar. This was followed by periods leading various EU Framework projects before becoming a Project Evaluator for the European Commission. After period leading research into active safety systems where Nigel oversaw the development of radar based blindspot monitoring. He was then given the challenge to keep Land Rover as leaders in off road capability where sensors became necessary to continue developing the off road capability and so the return to radars, machine vision and lidars and the trade-offs necessary for Automotive.
