Abstract

Explore the juncture of music, technology and engineering...Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to hear the future of music and the part that technology has to play in the evolution of sound. This free-to-attend and interactive session will examine music production interfaces from the past and present - as well as some that might well be prevalent in the future. The late 20th Century saw the technology used to create and produce music pass into the hands of those who were previously passive consumers. This session, hosted by Imperial College London and the Institution for Engineering and Technology will examine further the repercussions of this convergence of music and technology. How will music creation and sound control change as we move into the 21st Century??The speaker, Professor David Howard, is a leading pioneer in music technology. His research at York University focuses on analysis and synthesis of singing, speech and music. Notable achievements include the development of software as a support tool for vocal training/work and a number of i-phone apps. David's talk will consider the needs of the musician of the 21st century and will focus on:* real-time control * sound creation * sound modificationJoin the IET and Imperial college this May for what should be an eye opening session imagining a number of possible futures for music and technology.
