Miniaturisation of surgical tools and instruments is allowing more precise medical investigation and treatment, while minimising the impact on patients and thus speeding recovery, and reducing risks and side effects. In this talk we will examine some recent developments in this area, focusing on fibre robots and the sensing and actuation methods that can be deployed with them, and methods for control and navigation for these devices.
