Abstract

Members Annual Information Event, including the Annual General Meeting of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, will be held on Thursday, 16 June 2022 at 2.30 pm (BST) at the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Savoy Place, London WC2R 0BL, United Kingdom, for the following purposes: 
1. To receive the minutes of the previous meeting. 
2. To receive a report from the Chief Executive and Secretary on the IET’s achievements in the previous year. 
3. To receive a report from the President about the Institution’s plans for the future. 
4. To receive a report from Council. 
5. To receive a report from Foothold, The Institution of Engineering and Technology Benevolent Fund. 
6. To receive and consider the Trustees Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2021. 
7. To approve auditors for 2022. 
8. Vote of thanks to: 
(a) The honorary officers and members of all Institution Boards and Committees; 
(b) The staff of the Institution.

    Sir Julian Young

    Sir Julian Young retired recently from the Royal Air Force (RAF) after 40 years of service as an Engineer Officer.In his last post, he was Director-General Air within the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) organization in the Ministry of Defence (MOD).In this role, he led some 2,265 military and civilian specialists and was responsible for putting to work some £3.7 billion annually on equipping and supporting all of the MOD’s fixed-wing aircraft.He was concurrently a member of the Air Force Board and the RAF’s Chief Engineer and he had a MOD-wide role as the Defence Engineering Champion.Throughout his long career, Julian held a variety of in-command, manpower policy, operational, engineering, training, logistics and staff appointments, including Project Team Leader for the Harrier GR7/T10 fleet and on the Support Helicopter Force (Falkland Islands, Cold War Germany and Gulf War I).Julian’s first degree was in Air Transport Engineering, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.He is also a Governor of Bath College and a Trustee of the RAF Charitable Trust.He was awarded a KBE in 2020, a CB in 2013 and an OBE in 2000.

    Nigel Fine was appointed Chief Executive of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in June 2009. The IET is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technician community, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries. The IET provides a global knowledge network to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote the positive role of science, engineering and technology in the world.Nigel graduated from UMIST in 1978 with a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering and received his MBA from the London Business School in 1984. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the ICE and IET.His professional career has included working for Experian Plc where he was Managing Director for EMEA and Asia Pacific and he was an Associate Partner at Andersen Consulting (Accenture). His early career was with John Laing and International Paint.Nigel is a non-executive Director of EngineeringUK and Chairs the Professional Panel of CEO’s representing the licensed Professional Engineering Institutions in the UK, and Chairs the Audit Committee. He sits on the Strategy Board of Education for Engineers and the Technician Council.

    embers of the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Council have selected engineer Dr Carol Marsh OBE EngD CEng FIET as its new chair– the first woman to be elected to this post.Dr Carol Marsh, who is Deputy Head of Electronics Engineering at Leonardo based in Scotland, will begin her term on 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022.The IET Council is an international body of 28 individuals from across the globe. It is responsible for advising the Board of Trustees on the direction and strategy of the IET, to be the conduit for its members, and monitor the governance of the IET while promoting continuous improvement.Reflecting on the appointment, Carol said: “It feels really exciting to be elected as the first woman Chair of the IET Council. I am looking forward to collaborating with all of the members both in the UK and around the world to energise and inspire existing engineers, while drawing on their expertise to engage in a new generation of talent.”Carol graduated with a HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Edinburgh Napier University in 1985 and was awarded a degree of Doctor of Engineering in System Level Integration from the Universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde in 2011. Carol also becomes the first woman Chair of the Engineering Policy Group Scotland on the 1 October 2021.She is a member of the Membership and Professional Development Board, the Audit and Risk Process Committee and the Nominations and Succession Committee, a Fellow Assessor, a Professional Registration Advisor and Interviewer. She is also the Past President of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES). Carol is the winner of seven technology and diversity awards and in 2020 Carol was awarded an OBE for Diversity and Inclusion in Electronic Engineering. David Hogan CEng FIET, retiring Chair, added: “Carol brings a wealth of experience from her time as the Chair of IET Scotland, as well as being a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at Edinburgh Napier University.     Having retired as a Captain from the Royal Navy in January 2014 after 37+ years, I am now actively engaged in non-paid voluntary activity related primarily to charity management. I was President (July 2020 - June 2021) of Winchester Rotary, support Rotary in St Lucia, where I spend 2-3 months per year (helping disaster areas, disabled citizens and occasional sailing coaching - apart from in Covid times), am a Trustee (since 2017) for Foothold (IET's Benevolent Fund) having been on the IET Council for the previous 8 years (of which Chair for the last 2), the founding (2014) Chairman of Worthy Runners, a part-time Customer Services Consultant, and am a Life Flag Officer of the RNSA after 7 years as Vice Commodore.
