Manufacturing success stories like Avent are rare in the UK, because it is still not fully appreciated that every manufacturer needs to be supported by an even better sales and marketing operation. The UK has suffered more than most from this myopia: UK producers became accustomed to a sellers' market and never had the time, inclination, nor the aptitude to develop the skills on which manufacturing success now depends.
