About the session

Every year in the UK, 40 preventable deaths occur due to carbon monoxide poisoning. GDNs have a responsibility to stop the silent killer, with a license condition obliging them to raise awareness and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.  This seminar will explore the latest thinking in designing and communicating preventative interventions.

    Chris Bielby, MBE, a past President and Fellow of the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM), has spent the past 25 years tirelessly lobbying and canvassing support for gas safety issues, particularly around carbon monoxide as chairman of the Gas Industry Safety Group, Gas Safety Trust and the Gas Task Group. He was president of the Institution in 2005.Joining the industry in 1972, Chris started his career as a gas engineer before moving into other operational and senior managerial roles. He is now the Director of Industry Liaison for SGN, an IGEM Industrial Affiliate (IA) member.Chris joined SGN in September 2011 to lead on new business, including high profile bio-methane opportunities. Since then, he has also assumed strategic leadership for stakeholder engagement and innovation, both of which have benefitted enormously from his expertise, enthusiasm and positivity.
