About the session
Advanced Motorway Indicators (AMIs), supporting Highways England’s Smart Motorway schemes, present numerous challenges when requiring maintenance. The use of super-span gantries do not allow access, meaning maintenance activities are time consuming, resource intensive and require extensive traffic management which is disruptive to road users. Mott MacDonald has developed the Maintenance Assistance Vehicle (MAV) with the support of Simulation Systems Limited (SSL) and specialist vehicle manufacturer Emtek Services. The MAV reduces AMI swap out times, reduces resource requirements and improves road-worker safety.
The main theme of the ITS Glasgow Congress was ‘Delivering Future Cities Now’. The ITS demonstrations at Glasgow highlighted the successful implementations of ITS throughout Europe, with focus on the use of data from a variety of sources to provide a more informed and integrated choice to the travelling public. The demonstrations emphasised proven deployed ITS solutions and innovative research and development systems. The IET was busy filming at the ITS European Congress in Glasgow in order to bring you the latest Intelligent Transport solutions being trialled on our streets.
