    Dr Mike Short CBE FREng CEng FIET is the immediate-past President The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Vice President Telefonica Europe. He has been working in the electronics and telecommunications industry for 38 years, with the last 25 years in mobile communications. He was appointed as Director of Cellnet (now part of Telefamp;amp;amp;#243;nica and branded O2 UK) in 1989. Following elected roles as Chairman GSM ASSOCIATION and MDA (Mobile Data Association) , Mike has served as a member of the UK Home Office Internet Task Force, UK Government Trade and Investment ICT sector advisory board and its advisory committee on London 2012. He has been board member of UK Council for Child Internet Safety and an IET Trustee since 2008, and is currently a Board member of ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) . Mike is currently a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Leeds, Lancaster and Surrey.
