Abstract
The judging panel felt that the Paisley Canal Line project showed an innovative solution to a specific problem that has made best use of the infrastructure in a cost effective manner and utilised the existing rolling stock to the best advantage. Also by using this innovative solution and thus keeping the project costs to a reasonable level it has permitted the project to proceed where otherwise it may not have been considered financially viable. Whilst the solution is initially limited to the Paisley Canal Line project the judges hope that the innovative solutions adopted may be considered other similar projects on Network Rail (or other railways with similar challenges).quot; The IET Innovation Awards celebrate the products, technologies and processes that lead the way in engineering innovation. Spanning 15 categories, the Awards are judged by engineering experts and recognise the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology.
