About the session
The first in a series of collaborative events looking to build the UK Robotics eco-system, the Midlands Robotics Network Launch took place on 8th March at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry. This Network is brought to you by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in partnership with the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Special Interest Group (RAS SIG) of the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) with the support of business, research and academia in the region.
The launch started with an afternoon showcase, the first in a series of events which will be jointly delivered around the UK with the KTN, focusing on the start-up and spin out opportunities in RAS. Giving an overview of the current RAS landscape and background of the Midlands ecosystem, whilst also including first-hand accounts from a selection of companies that have already undergone the start up or spin out process; the event gave an insight into key business skills, with sessions covering Marcomms, Design & Manufacturing and Access to Funding and Finance. The afternoon programme highlighted the opportunities and potential growth within the RAS industry, which was followed by the evening launch of the network with a strong interdisciplinary community exploring the opportunities for cooperative developments.
