Abstract
The 2012 Innovation Awards is the platform for highlighting the best new innovations across the worldFor more information on the awards, visit http://conferences.theiet.org/innovation/MathWorks once again sponsors the Software in Design Award. This year's winner was The University of Surrey with A Motion Prediction and Modelling Framework for Reducing the Planning Target Volume Margin in External Beam RadiotherapyDesigning a strategy to apply the right radiation dosage to the tumour cells without affecting healthy cells is pertinent to successful oncological treatments. This is difficult to achieve if the target moves due to involuntary motion. The innovation here was not only the use of software to predict the target position, but also to create an extensible framework to integrate new, improved methods for targeting the radiation dosage. Thereby, allowing the designed treatment to be carried out reliably.Watch the award ceremony nowhttp://scpro.streamuk.com/uk/player/Default.aspx?wid=15586&ptid=1068&t=0
