Abstract
The launch of the Horizontal Innovation Initiative was held on Wednesday 20th January at the IET’s newly refurbished flagship venue, Savoy Place in the Maxwell Library.
This high-profile event brought together senior representatives from parallel industrial sectors, government delivery arms and media – to showcase the exciting Horizontal Innovation initiative delivered by the IET in line with the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA). Guest speakers Naomi Climer, IET President, Gordon Attenborough, IET Head of Sectors and Chris Aylett, MIA Chief Executive highlighted the importance of this initiative which looks to recognise, reward and encourage ‘horizontal innovation’ the successful transfer of innovative practices, processes, skills and technology between parallel sectors.
With huge benefits for industry, the ability to drive growth, create jobs and opportunities for future engineers the initiative most importantly looks to ensure that solutions which already exist are used to address some of our greatest societal challenges.
