    Prof. Phil Blythe

Newcastle University, Direcot of the Transport Operations Research Group (TORG)

PROFESSOR PHIL BLYTHE CEng, FIET is Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems and Director of the Transport Operations Research Group at Newcastle University. He was appointed to the academic staff at Newcastle University in 1999 as a Senior Lecturer and to the Chair of Transport in March 2003.Phil’s research portfolio covers a wide range of areas where ITS has been applied to transport including: road to vehicle communications; road user charging and toll systems; ITS for assistive mobility, smartcards and RFID, wireless/smartdust technologies, electromobility and future intelligent infrastructure and is reflected in his research-led teaching in ITS and e-Services. His primary research is forward looking and attempts to bridge the technology-policy gap in terms of what technologies may evolve to meet future policy objectives or indeed influence future policy thinking to meet the three main challenges currently facing transport, namely: congestion, climate change and future energy vectors.
