In this paper we review the recent progress on Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) scheme for high-performance PAM transmission using intensity modulation/direct detection systems. Based on an infinite impulse response filter at the transmitter THP scheme improves the tolerance to spectral power fading and enables faster-than-Nyquist signaling.
