We experimentally demonstrate a conceptually simple coherent homodyne transceiver. Building on no more than a polarization-insensitive dual-EML configuration full-duplex operation at 2.5Gb/s is achieved over an optical budget of 36dB despite Rayleigh noise at bidirectional drop fibre and without the need for digital signal recovery.
