Abstract
Engineers, we need your help: http://www.theiet.org/covid19 Engineers are turning £25 snorkel masks into ventilators. In March 2020 during the height of the ventilator shortage, sports retailer Decathlon and The Institute of Studies for the Integration of Systems, or Isinova, combined forces to successfully redesign the Easybreath line of underwater snorkels so that they could be used in hospitals all over the world. Isinova is now offering its innovation to the 3D printing community, having released full instructions and a video demonstration so that others can convert the snorkels… into emergency ventilator masks. One organisation to get involved is UK based The Challenge Academy Trust The DIY 'snorkel ventilator' can now be made by anyone with 3D Printing capabilities by downloading the opensource design direct from the Isinova website. As Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to dominates the headlines across the globe, the ventilator shortage continues to be an issue. But having the ability to 3D Print a part and convert a Decathlon Snorkel mask in to a ventilator for the NHS from home is one way we can help ease the pressure on the NHS.
