This is your opportunity to hear Lord Browne speak about the central role the next generation of engineers will play in tackling climate change and creating a less carbon fuel dependent society. He will set out the engineering challenges of climate change, outline promising engineering solutions and identify the skills that must be encouraged in young engineers to put them at the very centre of society.

    President of the Royal Academy of Engineering

    Born in 1948, Lord Browne holds a degree in Physics from Cambridge Universityand an MS in Business from Stanford University, California.He is Managing Director and Managing Partner (Europe) of Riverstone HoldingsLLC. His long career in BP began with a university apprenticeship in 1966 andincluded exploration and production posts and several senior executive positions.Following the merger of BP and Amoco, he became Group Chief Executive of thecombined group on December 31, 1998 until 1 May 2007.He was appointed a Trustee of the Tate Gallery on 1 August 2007. He isChairman of the Cambridge Judge Business School, a Trustee of the CambridgeUniversity Foundation and a member of the Guild of Cambridge Benefactors. He isa member (and former Chairman) of the British American Business Inc. He is anhonorary Trustee of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; a Fellow of the AmericanAcademy of Arts and Sciences and a Trustee of the Eisenhower Fellowship.In 1993, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, which, in 1999, awarded him thePrince Philip Medal for his outstanding contribution to the field of Engineering. He has been President of theAcademy since 2006.
