About the session
Olivia Carpenter-Lomax spoke about her role as an energy system engineer and what an energy systems engineer does. She discussed the generation of energy in real time every time energy is being used and the challenge that is posed by implementing renewable energy as a new system. She also discussed the limitations of renewable energy at this time, for example we do not have the battery ability to fly to Australia – yet. Olivia also talked about a case study of making hydrogen as an alternative to decarbonise shipping, which can be positive, but said there are moral implications too, ensuring that countries that do not have access to electricity at home do not sacrifice their energy away from people toward shipping.
