Abstract
Energiesprong UK launched a design competition in November 2019 at Accelerator Day. The aim of the Design Competition was to develop new approaches for high-performance, scalable and cost-effective net zero retrofit solutions focused on apartment blocks. During the event, we interviewed presenters to learn more about the aims of the competition, the purpose, challenges and intentions. The concept designs of the winning teams were presented at Futurebuild in London on March 2020.
The Design Competition had 3 categories; Build up, adding a layer on top of existing flats, while ensuring whole building net zero energy, net zero energy concept designs for low rise apartments/flats, and billing, metering and monitoring solutions. We asked the winners which housing property their team was given, how they overcame challenges, the most innovative aspect of their proposed solution, and how they see your solution becoming a reality.
