About the session
Session 4.2 - Keynote - EMI, the dark side of WBG devices
The dramatic switching speed of WBG devices has open the door to many applications with increased power density, high efficiency or both. These new devices are almost perfect switches, with zero transition time. So ideal switches ? A serious issue arises when engineers try to implement these devices in real life. The impact of stray elements becomes critical, thus preventing the use of these so "perfect" devices due to unacceptable overshoots, or too high ElectroMagnetic interferences, including self disturbance of the commutation. This talk will illustrate the effects of the stray elements involved by the interconnections, show how to keep them as low as possible, and even to use them when they can be designed to increase the converter performances, and reduce EMI.
