About the session

This session will explore the potential for smart grids, and the extent to which the smart meter rollout paves the way. It will ask what smart networks can achieve and what a fully connected society will look like. Speakers will chart the road map for the smart meter roll out, explore the role of smart meters in enabling smart grids, and outline the challenges and opportunities of the new technologies.

    Mike Kay’s expertise and experience covers many aspects of power engineering associated with the distribution and transmission of electricity, and also the economic regulation of network utilities.He chaired the Distribution Code Review Panel of Great Britain for 14 years until 2015.He is active in many industry forums and over the last decade has led the development of standards for connecting renewable and other generators to the GB distribution system. He has chaired the Engineering Committee of the Energy Networks Association, co-ordinating the technical policy approaches of the GB Distribution Companies.He is currently working with the GB Distribution Companies in putting the new requirements of the EU Network Codes into the GB Distribution Code.
