About the session

From the humble Psion Organizer to the latest smartphone, the handheld device has enjoyed an explosion in ownership and functionality in recent years. With its rapid rise fuelled by technology development which has encompassed IrDA (Infrared Data Association) interfaces, touch-screen technology and GPS, the handheld device has always invoked visions of a science fiction style future for humanity, but what is the future for the handheld device? How will handheld technology evolve to penetrate all aspects of life, and what is needed to accelerate development? Everyone who uses a smartphone will be using it to supplement or even replace their desktop PC functions, but not everyone realises that it is technology developed by UK company ARM that is at the heart of this revolution.
