  • Duration: 3 mins
  • Publication date: 10 Apr 2014
  • Location: IETTV_Room, IETTV_Venue, Manchester, United Kingdom
  • Part of event 7th International Conference on Power, Electronics, Machines & Drives (PEMD 2014)

About the session

This presentation describes the development and implementation of a simple but efficient photovoltaic water pumping system. The system employs a maximum power point tracker (MPPT), is composed of a PV generator, DC-DC boost converter, DC-AC converter, induction motor and centrifugal pump. Two MPPT algorithms, constant voltage and short-current pulse methods are modelled and implemented in a DSpace environment for practical evaluation. Each model is responsible for driving the DC-DC boost converter to track the maximum power point by instantaneous digital control of the duty ratio with respect to different weather conditions. The effectiveness and higher efficiency of the proposed MPPT schemes is demonstrated experimentally under various operating conditions.
